Fall Conf. - Oct.2007

The District 12-L Fall Conference, on 20 October 2007, was full of useful and interesting information. We have some of the information that was presented here for those that could not make it. (Agenda)

Our Treasurer, Dessie Reed, presented the following financial statements:

  • Income Statement
  • District 12-L Dues Statement
  • District 12-L Budget (Jul’07-Jun’08)

Ken Ketchum gave an excellent presenation on District 12-L Retention. He provided a Microsoft PowerPoint slide presentaion with Internet Web links (URL’s) to a vast array of retention resources that Lions Clubs can use to help attract and retain members. The PowerPoint file is provided for your viewing (via the above link) if you have the proper software to run it.  If you do not, most of the resources can be found by starting at the following URL:

PDG Robert Hurt and DG Al McNeely gave a presentation on the importance of Leo Clubs and retaining Leo’s as Lions.  Leo’s are a great way to help turn around the downturn in membership that the Lions have seen in recent years. A package of Leo Club information was provided.

PDG Floyd Schriber gave a presentation about the Canada/USA Lions Leadership Forum. The 32nd Annual Forum is scheduled for September 18-20, 2008 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. PDG Schriber indicated that the assistance of District 12-L Lions would be appreciated to help with the event in 2008. However, the 2009 Forum is scheduled to be held in Memphis and we will need participation from a large group to make this event a success. PDG Schriber has asked us all to plan ahead to attend and assist with the 2009 Forum.

PDG Schriber also provided a presentation concerning the Mid-South Lions Sight and Hearing Service. A brief video was shown followed by a reminder of the important role that Mid-South Lions Services have played in our community and their reliance on our support to continue providing those vital Sight and Hearing services.  He asked us each to obtain, complete, and return the Mid-South Lions Booster Club - Champion Level Form. Even the smallest donation of $10 per month by as little as five people can provide the gift of restored Sight or Hearing to an individual in need.

Our Lunch Program included a presentation by PDG B.J. Gallamore on Campaign Sight First II. He began by dispelling some unfounded rumours that the money for Campaign Sight First is all going to places outside of our community. He informed us all that the Campaign is a fund raising method for LCIF and cited several examples of grants provided to assist District 12-L (i.e.; purchase of the Lions Mobile Sight Clinic and hand held Eyesight test units). Please discuss with your clubs the need to pledge funds in support of Campaign Sight First II.

Lion Robin Butler indicated the Silent Auction went well. Millington Lions donated the auction items that raised the most money ($106). Secretary, PDG Edith Glenn, indicated that Millington Lions would donate their share of the proceeds back to the District to help fund training for future Lions Leadership.

Everyone had a great time, enjoyed the fellowship with Lions from several District 12-L clubs, and learned alot about how our efforts support our community and the world we live in.  Please join us in the future so that we may continue the good work that we do.
