Please check in the Retention Resouces page for a cover letter and a number of Retention Tool Forms. We have also posted the Keep Control PowerPoint slide presentation that was discussed at the District Convention.

While cleaning up and putting away the 2007 files, I ran across my 3 ring binder for my Club Presidency in 1992-1993. As also the president of the Germantown Club in 2007-2008, that gave me an opportunity to compare the membership across 15 years.

We had 18 members in 1992-1993 versus 32 in 2007-2008. Of the 18 member in 1992-1993, 6 are still members. So we have 12 to account for: 5 moved away from Germantown. 6 died. One (1) still lives in the area but decided to quite for an unknown reason (we suspect it is a personality difference with a member but I have not verified it).

Is that a retention success story?? Is your club’s history similar? If we do not obtain and retain younger members, the 33% mortality rate will be the norm.

Thanks.

As a club president, I just sent this out to all of our members:

“As you make the final drop-off of pecans at your outlets, why not leave a couple of the 2007-2008 Germantown Lions Club brochures (remember it was distributed in July) with the bank or store manager, and ask them if they have someone in their organization that would profit from serving with the Lions? Being a Lions Club member/officer always looks good on a resume.

If you need some more, email me and I will send some out. (I am as bad as anyone about failing to self promote our fine organization.)”

As a club project, why not develop or update a Club Brochure?

Along with an extension device to potential new members, a brochure will re-emphasize to your current members what you do for your community, nation, and world. Our club brochure incorporates verbatim our project funds expenditures for the year. There is at least one item on that list that will touch the heart of your member, and like the Grinch whose heart tripled three sizes, your members will swell up in pride and say, “yes, I did help make this a better world”.

Merry Christmas
